He began his career in the 1960s, directing films such as The Magnificent Gladiator (1964) and The Conqueror of Atlantis (1965). Brescia gained notoriety in the late 1970s for his low-budget science fiction films, often inspired by the success of Star Wars. These films, including War of the Robots (1978) and Star Odyssey (1979), are noted for their imaginative storytelling despite budget constraints.
