    Biography

Carla Hool is a Mexican-born casting director with over two decades of experience in both U.S. and Latin American film and television. Raised in Mexico City and from a lineage deeply rooted in entertainment—her grandmother was the Mexican Golden Age actress and dancer Constanza Hool, and her father is producer Conrad Hool—she was exposed to film production from an early age. She developed a passion for casting early in her career. She first worked supervising casting under her father’s guidance, and one of her earliest international credits came with Man on Fire (2004), co-produced by her father. Two years later, she earned her first standalone U.S. casting credit on Apocalypto (2006). After moving to Los Angeles around 2007, she continued to expand her career internationally, taking on a wide variety of casting projects while advocating for authentic representation of Latino talent. Across her career, she has worked on more than 100 films and television series, including major productions like Coco(2017) for which she won an Artios Award, Narcos (2015), Narcos: Mexico (2018), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever(2022), Flamin’ Hot (2023), and Emilia Pérez (2024). Her professionalism and contributions have been recognised with several awards. She received NALIP’s Industry Pioneer Award in 2019, won the 2022 Heller Award for Feature Casting Director of the Year, and has had multiple nominations and wins from the Casting Society of America’s Artios Awards. She was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2020. Carla Hool is fluent in English and Spanish, with proficiency in Italian and some French. She continues to split her professional focus between projects in Los Angeles and international work, particularly across Latin America and Spain, pushing for authentic portrayals of Latino characters—not limited to stereotypical roles—while adhering to the highest standards of casting in Hollywood and abroad.
